Gandhi's Life
“When I despair, I remember that all through history the way of truth and love have always won. There have been tyrants and murderers, and for a time, they can seem invincible, but in the end, they always fall. Think of it--always.”
Mahatma Gandhi was born on October 2, 1869. He studied law and became an advocate for the Indian rights. Gandhi became the leader of Indian independent movement, which boycotted against British policies. They did this peacefully, never attacking or trying to anger anybody. He was inspired to do this when he was kicked off a first class train in South Africa. Because of this, he held an India rights meeting where Indians would burn their I. Ds Gandhi and a few other people were arrested for their actions and made Gandhi a new independent movement leader.
After giving freedom to South Africa, he travels back to India so he can stop the British government from taking away Indian's rights. He puts the Indian's through lots of marches. Including the March for salt, which was for Indians having the right to tax their own resources so the Indian government could gain money. Finally he brings peace and freedom to India. But now with this new freedom Indian Hindus want all Muslims to leave. So Gandhi does a hunger strike and makes the people stop fighting. Even though Gandhi had done these amazing things, he was assassinated January 30th, 1948.
Gandhi’s fought(peacefully) for India’s rights. He was an amazing individual who brought peace to India. He stuck to his word, and always fought hardships, even if the hardships were winning. Because in the end tyrants will always fall. Gandhi has proven this, and his quote captures part of his essence.
Remember: “When I despair, I remember that all through history the way of truth and love have always won. There have been tyrants and murderers, and for a time, they can seem invincible, but in the end, they always fall. Think of it--always.”
American Idol and Indian Idol
American Idol is a show where people from all over the world come and sing in front of judges to win a singing contract Indian Idol is the exact same thing. Both T.V. Show's have the same concept but different styles. For example, Indian Idol is more hyped up and involves a lot more weird characters. But American Idol does not have the same flow of energy. Also both of them are in a different country and have different judges. So both of them are similar and different in their own little ways.

India's NGO
For my NGO I choose GOONJ. GOONJ was formed in 1999 by Anshu Gupta. GOONJ is a program that provides clothes for people that can't afford any. They also give blankets and other cloth items to the needy. GOONJ has over 250 partner groups in India. They have grown fairly quickly and hope to keep growing at an even faster rate.
The really good thing about GOONJ is that anyone can volunteer. Which connects everyone in the world so they can form a community. You can join formally, online, or even travel to India and become an intern. They are always happy to attain more helpful hands.
